A model to follow during winter

“Well, I’ve got to have something to do in the wintertime, or otherwise I’d be divorced by now.”

That’s what rural Thief River Falls resident Duane Kotrba said when asked why he makes models of skid loaders, excavators, tractors and semi tractors.

Kotrba started making the models on a regular basis after he retired four-and-a-half years ago. It was a natural progression for Kotrba to start making models. During his career, he worked on display cabinets for Dayton’s and Macy’s.

“I’ve told everybody I’ve done woodworking all my life, the only thing is the pieces are smaller,” he said.

Kotrba mostly makes models of skid loaders. He estimated that he has made close to 100. He has also made about 35 models of excavators as well as tractors and semi tractors.
